Hi,

Well I am shut out of ebay, I cannot email through ebay, and some of my customers either do not check their email that they use through Paypal, or its getting blocked some other way.  Please check your Paypal account and check to be sure that you are using a current email on Paypal.  That is the only email Ebay provides me, so if it is an email you no longer use, you will not get my emails.

I hope that ebay will finally let me back in.  I did not have a line in my auctions stating that I have resale rights.  So they shut me down, to protect ebay from a lawsuit.  I do not know the exact procedures, the letter did say I would be shut down for a minimum of 7 days.

I will be getting my feedback incentives out once ebay lets me back in.

So here is the newest news.

FEEDBACK HOSTAGE:  MY LATEST RANT

Lately I have been getting accused of feedback hostage.  I have been selling (actively) on ebay for 2 years, and now I am getting some complaints about my feedback policy.  Here is my policy

Please leave feedback when you can. I will leave feedback after I receive feedback from you.

I mostly sell ebooks so I will explain my reasoning for my policy based on selling ebooks.  Other sellers may have different reasons for their policies, and I might have a different policy if I sold something else.

Because I have no way of tracking any form of digital delivery (email or the Paypal checkout page), then I have no way of knowing if you, my customer, has received your purchase.  I cannot insure, or even through ebay, request a return receipt.  And with so much spam, people are using that spam block that you have to click on a link for your email to go through, and I have even had that say my email will not go through.

So, I believe that when I have received payment and sent out a link, that my job is still not done.  Did you really get your ebook?  Was their a broken link?  What if I did a bad job in describing it?  This actually protects both of us.  Forces me to have great customer service after I have your money.

If you, the customer, do not want negative feedback left, then you will contact me and let me know that something is wrong.  Other wise, you could just leave me negative feedback, thus no refund, and the problem is not fixed.  I honor my refund policy and still get positive feedback, and so do you, my customer.  

Why should I, having already given you my customer, a positive feedback, receive a negative feedback because you did not like my product?  What does that have to do with being an honest seller?  You received my product, so where is my protection?  And you as a customer, what incentive is their for me to leave you any feedback at all?  I always leave feedback for anyone who leaves me feedback.

Here is an excerpt of the latest complaint:

I received the product promptly. To be honest, I have only looked at it briefly but I am sure it is fine. I am satisfied with the purchase and your service. My rating of this transaction is positive.

My feelings about feedback...
I feel that once I have made payment for a purchase the seller should leave positive feedback for me. To me, my payment is the basis for earning feedback as I have met my obligation in the sale at that point.

I know that many sellers hold their feedback hostage to help insure they get good feedback. I feel this is a dishonest practice but realize there is nothing prohibiting it. I often reward these sellers with no feedback. That is the case for this transaction.

And it goes on..

Hostage?  And Dishonest Practice?  I do have a problem with that.  

I feel if you want feedback you will give feedback.  I am not a power seller, I do not have a 4 digit number (or more) after my name and most of my customers do not either.  If your happy with the product and the service, then why does it matter who gives feedback first?  I offer a 30 day return policy, if you decide after I left positive feedback that you do not like the product, it leaves me open to receive negative feedback and that I then have no recourse, no protection.

A potential customer can check on my feedback before purchase, but I cannot see their feedback until after they bid/buy.  Not everyone is honest, I am.  And I do not know what the statistics are for feedback, but most of my customers leave me feedback.  

Now I am offering a free ebook for any customer that leaves me positive feedback.  I get lots of positive feedback, but not many requests for the free ebook.  I even send out a reminder email after a month to pick out your free ebook.  I came up with this idea on my own, and not because I wanted more positive feedback, but because I really want my customers to be happy, and maybe remember to come back again and buy.

Thanks for reading my rant.  I hope that I did not offend anyone.  I understand not everybody has the same opinion as me, but offending is different.  And maybe some of my customers can understand my side, which does not mean you have to agree, just understand.
